Welcome August!

Here is a little reflection on what we can do as the eighth month of the year approaches for healthy drinking and general well-being.

While snooping around the world-wide web, I came to the realization that August is the month of lemons! Using lemon juice in your food and drinks was never more in theme!

While this citrus fruit is available all year round, in the USA the month of August provides us with at least three viable lemon-drinking opportunities. So, let’s slice some lemons!

August 20th: National Lemonade Day; As a dad, entrepreneur, (and a lemon-lover) this holiday personally touches my heart. It is not just about making delicious lemonade. This day is dedicated to teaching your kids about setting up their own lemonade stand and running their own company. It’s a great way to meet some new people in your neighborhood, sip on a refreshing drink and put your money to a good cause.

I just love the idea of giving children the opportunity to learn goal setting, business skills, responsibility, financial planning, and teamwork.

August 25th: Whiskey Sour Day; The Whiskey Sour is a simple cocktail made with Whiskey, water, sugar, and lemon juice with optional (and highly recommended) egg whites.

Several historical mentions of this cocktail came to fruition in the early-to-mid-1800’s, but it is said to have widespread popularity in the United States even before it was written down.

August 29th: National Lemon Juice Day; This day is dedicated to adding lemon to any of your favorite drinks, dishes, and wellness juices. So stock up on some lemons and add a zesty pucker to just about anything!
